Haha Oops

Well, I guess I got busy huh? Haha oops, sorry for not posting for like… a few months.

I kind of did overload myself with 6 projects, but luckily it reduced down to 3 due to completing the projects or unforseen circumstances. Sadly happens a lot with people trying to create their own game, and I get it. There’s a lot of inspiration behind their idea, but it’s just not clear enough yet to become a polished game.

One thing I’ve tried to do as a project manager (or just generally helping people) is to go through different steps to really narrow down the basic concrete details of the game. Is it 2D or 3D? Turn-based or realtime? Single-player or multi-player? And so on. This has not only helped me get into the groove of new projects, but also helps get their brain thinking about how their idea can become a game.

An unfortunate problem that does arise (and I’ve run into it way too many times as I am sure most people have) is scope creep. You always want to add more features, add something cool, do this, do that, but you haven’t even gotten movement down yet. You haven’t even made a little testing area for your character to move around in. There’s so much that comes before anything cool” starts developing. Once you’re at that point, it’s pretty nice, but getting there is a huge leap. I’ve learned this from the Bevy Game Jam.

Shoutout to my Bevy Game Jam teammates. They really carried me through it, kept me motivated, and always reassured that I was as much a team member as them. One of them lead us through an 8 hour meeting just to get a game idea for the jam. Was it worth it? Absolutely. It was like watching our coins go down the spiral well: watch as they dance gracefully around the outside separately to slowly join in the center around the same spot. He really helped all of our minds mesh together to create a game that we all enjoyed making, emphasis on all and enjoyed. Best group ever. We want to keep working together and I couldn’t be more happy about it.

But anyways, I am going to be busy still because these projects’s deadlines are in the coming months. Very excited for that, though being sick the past few days hasn’t really helped me convey that lol. I also want to do this sign off” for each of my future posts if I remember to.

The world we live in has changed and I want to ensure that it changes for the betterment of everyone. Emphasis on everyone.

You’re always loved,
Toast
